Safety Tips for All of Us #23

Create a designated place in your home where vital personal information is easy to find. We recommend the kitchen. Romie Myers, R.N., of FamilyCareGiversOnline.com, states that “Emergency workers such as firefighters are trained to go to the kitchen and check...the refrigerator for emergency information.” Make sure to include emergency contacts, your doctor's name, phone number & address, a list of medications you take, any allergies, medical conditions, etc. Email jeannette [at] jslifts [dot] com for a free worksheet.

"Help Her Up" - A Touching True Story

I recently took my 10 month old baby girl to see her great grandmother at a nursing home. We visited for awhile before Baby Girl became very wiggly and begged to get down and explore. I took her into the hallway and put her on the floor so she could crawl. She squealed with delight as she took off and I followed. Towards the end of the hallway we reached a closed door that peaked Baby Girl's curiosity. Then all of the sudden we heard someone shout “Open the door! Open the door!” from inside.

Being appreciated!

Yesterday we received a wonderful gift from a former client who also included a wonderful letter thanking us for the work that we did. I can not tell you how wonderful it feels when that happens. We feel so blessed to help people remain in their homes and do so with dignity and grace. We really do listen to our clients and find the best solution for their needs - even when that sometimes means sending them to someone else that has a product that fits their needs better than we can. Whether it be a stair lift or a grab bar or any other equipment, we are thankful to serve our clients.

IRS May Allow Deductions for your Medical Equipment and Modifications

According to IRS Publication 502 regarding Medical and dental expenses, you may be able to deduct the cost of medical equipment and modifications that you make to your home. The below excerpt can be found on page 6 under Capital Expenses.
“You can include in medical expenses amounts you pay for special equipment installed in a home, or for improvements, if their main purpose is medical care for you, your spouse, or your dependent.

Stair Lifts don't hang on walls

One of the more common questions or comments we hear from people is that they wonder if their walls can support a stair lift. Or they tell us that they have an open stair case and they think they cannot have a stair lift. The truth is that stair lifts are secured to the steps with brackets. They can be installed on most any type of stairs. A straight stair lift can be installed in a few hours and even the curved stair lift can be installed in less than a day. So if you or your loved one is struggling getting up and down the stairs, give us a call. We can help.

Aging in Place

AARP organization has determined that the vast majority of older people would prefer to stay in their homes for life. Aging and other circumstances cause changes in our abilities. Your home may need some modifications to account for these changes. Jonathan's Son, Inc. can do a home evaluation to help you plan what you will need to stay in your home.

Residential Elevators

A great way to increase the value of your home and add convenience and safety for you and your loved ones is to install a residential elevator from ThyssenKrupp installed by Jonathan’s Son, Inc. ThyssenKrupp has a variety of home residential elevators to choose from. Whether you need it for the multiple trips up and down the stairs with laundry, furniture, kids, seasonal items or groceries, you will find these residential elevators a practical addition to your home.
